GIANCARLO ROSATI: THE CHOICE,
THE AVATAR OF PUTTAPARTHI OR THE IMPOSTOR OF MUDDENAHALLI?
Analysis of the Medium of Muddenahalli and His Associates
It is necessary that the good comes and blessed is the one by whom it comes. Thus it is necessary for evil to come and big troubles for the one by whom it comes. -Sayings of Jesus
Don’t hurt, deceive or harm others. -Sathya Sai Baba, 1997
It is very difficult to make an objective analysis about the catastrophes that hit the spiritual communities. Despite the topic being dealt with through the best science known to us, it will not be easy to understand the situation. At the same time, we cannot allow thousand of good people who seek the truth to go adrift.
However we must accept the idea that, if one doesn’t find the metaphysical truth in the teaching of Sathya Sai Baba, it is reasonable that one looks elsewhere, while being careful not to fall into deception.
Personally, the case of Muddenahalli would not interest me if the honour of a great Master, with whom I undertook a solemn commitment to promote the inner Self and counteract deceptions, was not compromised.
The analysis starts from having viewed a journalistic program on Indian television that pointed out how a former student of Sai Baba had thought to imitate the Master and to repeat in Muddenahalli what the Master Sathya Sai had done in Puttaparthi, as well as appropriating himself of all the local schools of the Master. The following films show the student’s camouflage and the deceit brought to its extremes, until we suspected him of being possessed.
The television programs and videos posted on the internet lead to some considerations.
Is Muddenahalli’s medium in good faith or in bad faith?
Who are the accomplices who support this farce?
If the medium is in good faith, then one must recognize in him a pathology known as paranoid schizophrenia. If, on the contrary, he is in bad faith, he is an impostor and can be considered a puppet in the hands of a group of opportunists who claim to be something they are not.
The man of Muddenahalli can therefore be either a sick man or a scoundrel but, regardless, he remains an impostor.
Whoever believes that Sai Baba truly represents his own divine Self, as Christ represents for Christians, cannot accept a false witness, an impostor who mocks Him, who induces others to swear loyalty to him, who incites proselytism and who instigates the request for money; all initiatives that the true Sai Baba had always strictly forbidden, since oaths, proselytism and requests for money denote doubts, fear, enslavement and, above all, ignorance; that is “lack of Knowledge”. (4.09)
There are hundred of people in the world who claim to be possessed by a spirit, an angle or a demon, or who act as a medium. Scientists qualify these kinds of individuals as paranoid schizophrenics because they feel possessed by some unknown entity. Therefore, they are people who need to be treated and need to receive appropriate social assistance.
THE PATHOLOGY OF POSSESSION
If the man of Muddenahalli is in good faith (I repeat it willingly), he must be considered a sick man.
Let us clarify this.
The psychiatric pathology that is called paranoid schizophrenia is not only found in Muddenahalli, but in all countries of the world. In Italy, some people have claimed to see the Virgin Mary, dragging mentally weaker people (graduates or non-graduates) into their diabolical fantasies. The last case concerns a catholic priest, Father Minutella (Rai Tv, Italian Stories of 22.2.18). who claims to speak with the Virgin Mary.
The priest has plagiarized a number of girls, even having them refer to him as “The Holy Father” and like the medium of Muddenahalli, began to build “The little Nazareth” which was immediately blocked by the civil authorities. For its part, the Catholic Church has taken very severe measures against him, while the police continue to investigate.
Don Minutella is not the only one to take advantage of the fragility of the people. Even a certain Christian Del Vecchio, with the connivance of priests and nuns, claims to speak with the Virgin Mary and takes advantage of the generosity and naivety of the people.
Another case, resulting in an arrest warrant (Tv Fourth Grade of 4.3.18), concerns a certain Paolo Catanzaro, a Marian visionary who in twenty years of activity, supported by the former bishop of Brindisi, Monsignor Talucci, managed to wrest huge sums from his followers.
The last case, in chronological order, is a man who calls himself “The thirteenth apostle”. and counts 300 followers. But in the undergrowth, there are dozen of scammers named Dolores, Maria Assunta or Angelina who must be denounced to the police without hesitation.
Impostors and weak victims are not only found in Muddenahalli; they are found in all the countries of the world.
In Italy there are 3200 socio-religious sects with three million people subdued with the use of hypnosis, hallucinogenic substances or distancing from their gross family unit. The sect isolate you, gratifies you, makes you feel privileged by God, and then you are finished. The tactics and tools used by the group of Muddenahalli are identical to those of western socio-religious sects, such as the Dianetics, whose only aim is to replenish their money boxes.
The objective of impostors and sects is always the collection of money.
The collection of money (hidden by a semblance of spirituality) is a valuable index to determine whether an individual is in good faith or is a ruthless crook.
Sai Baba used to say:
“There are groups of followers who collect money in My name. I ask you to scold these people and keep away from you, whoever they are.” (Discourse of 25 November, 1962)
“People say, ‘Sai Baba appeared to me in a dream and ordered me to collect sum of money from you’. Don’t listen to such crooks; you must rebuke them in the manner they deserve.”
“Many people collect money in different places using My Name for various purposes. Do not give in to these requests and do not encourage such practices. These are all things that I condemn.”
Science explains that the Possession is a psychophysical condition in which a person is considered to be inhabited by a spirit. In recent times, the faith in the possession has always been weakened by the aforementioned ecclesiastical circles, since it has been ascertained that “the Possessed”, in reality, must be victims of mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and some other forms of psychosis.
At the beginning, the Possessed manifests faint symptoms. The patient imagines seeing or speaking with a spirit or an angel but, gradually, the mental situation worsens, so he embodies the role which he has desired for years and feels possessed by the spirit with which he spoke during his hallucinations. The pathological evolution of the medium of Muddenahalli is proof of this.
The act of Muddenahalli takes place in a pathetic, ridiculous and surreal way. A follower opens the door of a luxury car and informs the people who are there that Sai Baba is exiting and is going to sit on a chair that remains, of course, empty. Everything takes place in the mind of the medium of Muddenahalli. Only he “sees” the ghost (or subtle body) of Sai Baba: only he hears Him talking. The others see and hear absolutely nothing. Then the medium tells the people what his mind conceives in that moment.
Sai Baba never missed the opportunity to warn the researchers:
“There are people who spread the news that I speak through a medium or some other agent. Treat all these people and their emissaries or intermediaries as you would treat crooks. If you do not treat them as such, you become accomplices of their deception.”
Those who follow the medium have forgotten what the enlightened philosopher Shankara had said. By predicting that one day somebody would find himself worshipping a so-called subtle body as has happened in Muddenahalli, Shakara wrote (Vivekacudamani) and Sai Baba confirmed:
“A subtle body cannot be the Divine Master because it is mingled with other subtle bodies which are the result of ignorance (Vritti); an invention of the mind.”
The followers of Muddenahalli seem to have forgotten what Sai Baba has said about the mediums:
“They are faltering, weak or demoniac human vehicles who must be outcast because they try to deceive weak people.”
“If someone tells you that he hears My voice which tells him to do this or that thing, distance yourself from him, because you are facing a person who has hallucinations. I have other ways of talking to you. My name is Sathya Sai which means one who adheres to the Truth. I came as Shirdi Sai Baba and I am now back as Sathya Sai Baba. Since the Sai descends in series, after this, there will come only one whose name will be Prema Sai and will be born in the region of Mysore. (Sathya Sai Speaks Part 1, p. 160, 1974)
“There are people who believe that Sai Baba speaks through some individuals. They are foolish! It’s all an act which deceives sick minds. Do not become their victims and do not be led astray by crooks and opportunists. They defile the faith that their brothers and sisters have placed in God.”
(Discourse of October 15, 1964)
THE ACCOMPLICES
Who sits behind the medium who has perpetrated such a diabolical scam? Who pulls the strings?
The medium of Muddenahalli is manipulated like a puppet by someone who has taken advantage of his mental disorder and pushed him into a disturbing situation which can lead to very dangerous developments.
The first offense committed by the impostor of Muddenahalli is identity theft.
Identity theft is a criminal conduct perpetrated by those who pretend to be another person and it is in many cases directed at unduly obtaining money or benefits.
It is therefore a criminal offense.
Why did the Possessed of Muddenahlli choose to imitate Sai Baba and not propose himself as one of the many holy men wandering around India?
If the impostor of Muddenahalli had not usurped the name and reality of Sai Baba and had proposed himself as one of the many gurus who populate the East, he would have left everyone in absolute indifference. On the contrary, he chose to imitate Sai Baba.
The explanation is simple and falls within the realm of psychiatry. The Possessed of Muddenahalli attended Sai Baba’s schools in Puttaparthi and the MASTER SAI was the model to imitate.
When Sai Baba met him, He immediately labeled him a diabolical being. The ancient philosophers called these subjects, so badly affected by a heavy karma, Asura; the anti-gods or the godless. They are known as diabolic evil beings whose karma makes even the pillars of heaven tremble.
The former professor of pedagogy of the University of Verona, the Franciscan father Aldo Bergamaschi, said that these individuals are like:
“terrorists who, having no courage to show their illness to a society which considers them incapable, and not having the preparation to receive a university professorship, embody a saint or a spiritual master or the Virgin Mary and begin to spread to the world of the simpletons some messages to imitate the saint they want to represent.”
In short, each Possessed, not having an adequate intellectual and spiritual capacity, has no choice but to imitate some great soul.
Have the followers of the medium of Muddenahalli not noticed that pathology which affects him and the schemes carried out by the four or five opportunists who have given him a hand?
The Possessed of Muddenahalli would have had the chance to cure himself if he had not found four or five scoundrels who encouraged him in his delirium, only to satisfy their insane unrealized desires.
A sick individual has not fault for the pathology that Karma sticks to him, but he carries a sign which is clearly visible to the mystic. The real responsibility, however, falls onto the accomplices who have taken advantage of his pathology to achieve personal interests that have nothing to do with spirituality, unless the medium too is in bad faith and willingly uses tricks to deceive the naïve, as shown in the videos posted on You-tube.
Here lies the heart of the matter and the root of the evil that ensues.
The first people to be in concordance with the medium were those who, when Sai Baba was alive, had not yet achieved their material goals. Sai Baba held them for a long time in his ashram, saying:
“I keep them close to me in order to avoid them causing damage elsewhere.”
Having probably not found an adequate placement within the Organization of the Master due to their low levels of consciousness, as soon as Sai Baba died, they felt free to satisfy their frustrated egos.
At that point, they did not hesitate to betray the Master and His teaching, as any Judas would have done. In a speech held in the year 2000, Sai Baba said:
“Jesus was betrayed by only one Juda. I will be betrayed by not one but by thousands of Judas.”
His prophecy has come true at Muddenahalli.
To implement their abstract plan, the impostor of Muddenahalli and his accomplices had to have a lot of money. Since the spontaneous donations of the followers are not enough, the Indian police are trying to understand the origin of the funds.
In the meanwhile all the followers are busy knocking door by door to collect money and perpetrate proselytism. In Italy, a country used to have mediums and visionaries, these have had a good game, putting entire families in economic and social difficulties, while in Nigeria the members of the fraudulent group were arrested by the police and expelled from the country on charges of defrauding naive and fragile people.
In conclusion, taking advantage of the delirium of the man from Muddenahalli, some opportunists and speculators have thrown themselves onto him, and he has become a guru-clown that gathers donations.
The Indian police suspects crimes that would be traced back to the Criminal Code also in Italy:
THE ABUSE OF POPULAR CREDULITY (art. 611)
IDENTITY THEFT (art. 4949)
FRAUD (art. 640)
THE CIRCUMVENTION OF INCAPABLE OR MENTALLY LIABLE PEOPLE (art. 643)
IMPROPER COLLECTION OF MONEY
And so on . . .
Objectively and reasonable, it is not possible to know exactly whether the man of Muddenahalli is a manipulator of minds, a trickster, a simple sick man, a Possessed, or all of those combined. A team of doctors, sociologists and Brahmins should examine him carefully, but this is not considered relevant in a country like India, where many hotheaded individuals go around invoking to be what they are not and never will be.
The spiritual seeker who has adhered to the reality and to the teaching of the true Sai Baba is entitled to ask the followers of Muddenahalli three things:
What may he offer to the spiritual seeker?
The seekers, faithful to Sai Baba’s teaching and his reality, remain perplexed by observing that people, scholastically intelligent and educated, are tricked by visionaries and Possessed. But, as Sai Baba said:
“The human mind is like a snake willing to bite everything that moves, risking to be trapped.”
Today the trap is called Muddenahalli, but it is one of many and falls within the statement made by Sai Baba on March 26, 1965:
“Do not believe anyone who comes to you and declares: ‘Sathya Sai Baba has instructed me to represent him.’
I do not authorize anyone to do these things, neither in dream nor awake. These people are scammers. Treat them as such without mercy.”
What else is needed to understand that the farce of Muddenahalli is a planned deception?
Two thousand years ago the Gautama Buddha let the simple people believe in spirits and ghosts, because this way they felt happier. But now that we are in the third millennium reasonable people are able to understand that in Muddenahalli there is not only a great spiritual deception, but also a financial scam and a social rift with the complicity of some opportunists who have not hesitated to put in jeopardy the reputation of a great spiritual master, the dignity of their family and the spiritual search of thousands of seekers, exposing everyone to a serious danger which they do not even realize the seriousness of.
In the television program in which Don Minutella was denounced, a similar case was discussed (Rai, Italian stories, 12-02-2018) and it was concluded that:
THE DESCENT IN THE FIELD
Sathya Sai Baba’s true devotees take to the field not for defending the reality of their Master or the metaphysical truth. Neither one needs confirmation. The reasons are others:
Anyone who has joined this scam in good faith, with the genuine conviction of acting correctly and without malice, will have the opportunity to become aware of the deception into which he has fallen. They are the ones that Sai Baba and his devotees are waiting for with open arms.
“When you have overcome your negativity,” said Sai Baba, “you will again come back to My Source.”
TIME GOES BY FAST
Bad Karma has been sown but has not yet sprouted. The one who has joined the deception of Muddenahalli has been running towards a serious danger. He has the drugs in his hand and he must decide soon if he will poison himself by embracing the false guru or if he will throw away the intoxicating substances and return to the good.
Muddenahalli’s trap is a time-bomb both from a worldly and from a spiritual point of view.
There is no doubt that Muddenahalli is a fraud. If it is a fraud, it is a deception. If it is a deception, those who adhere to it or sympathize with it are accomplices.
Having said this, each one must make the choice that best suits one’s psychology and one’s state of awareness.
First of all, people who have chosen Sai Baba as a Master, have decided to follow His instructions and intend to defend the metaphysical Truth by moving immediately away from any attempt at deception.
Sai Baba said:
“The greatest service that can be done to others is to explain the reality of the Self, the Ultimate Truth.”
Truth is truth: either you welcome it and you reach it, or you refuse it and you lose it.
Muddenahalli is like a theatrical illusion which has nothing to do with the spiritual research proposed by Sai Baba.
Many of those who follow the impostor of Muddenahalli try to hide behind the façade of the false goodness, and they expect the researchers who are faithful to the metaphysical reality of Sai Baba to be compassionate, tolerant and loving. But they forget that the Master himself has taught not to accept injustice, to reject deception and to treat fraudsters without mercy. (26-03-1965)
Some other followers state that “God can do anything” and could even hide behind the false building of Muddenahalli. If God is Truth and Goodness, he cannot hide behind a false and evil construction which, inexorably, pushes the researchers away from their metaphysical goal.
How can one think that an architect builds an extraordinary palace in the morning and then destroys it in the evening?
From all that has been observed, the external spectator can only share the statement made by the German philosopher Friederich Nietzsche:
“People do not want to hear the truth because they do not want to see their own illusions destroyed.”
Sai Baba had taught completely different things:
What truth can be found in a scam?
Willy-nilly, the drama of Muddenahalli rests on fraud, lies and deception.
Sai Baba used to say (Geetha Vahini, p. 8):
“Man renounces his dignity and his status in favour of other men for various reasons: fame, wealth, success and power. But he seldom chooses to surrender to the Lord for the sake of the Lord Himself.”
Today we can say that a certain category of men instead easily and naively surrender also to the scam.
Has the Master ever tried to justify fraud, greed, plagiarism or vainglory?
Has he ever tried to make the demon quality as an angelic being?
Surely He never gave credit to deception, fraud, imitation and mediumship.
Sai Baba had come to facilitate the liberation of spiritual seekers, while the followers of Muddenahalli’s group are doing everything to cancel that process.
Master Sai decided to make a great selection. This is still in progress and is not yet finished. The search of the future Prema Sai is still at stake. At the moment, two Prema Sai have been proposed. Surely one of them is an impostor, however innocent he may be.
Based on what Sai Baba had said to many of us, we can reasonably believe that both are not what someone claims. But we talk about this in the future.
In relation to one’s state of consciousness, everyone is obviously free to choose whether to be with the enlightened master or with his false and grotesque copy.
Once a person has made the choice, then he must also have the dignity of being coherent with the role which he is holding.
To conclude this analysis, it is wise to invite all the researchers who are faithful to the teaching and to the physical reality of Sai Baba to forget Muddenahalli’s case as one forgets and illness and to ignore his followers without judging them. It is not up to do it.
Once fraternally warned, the sailors must be left to their stormy destinies.

- When you are about to die, would you like to have by you the impostor of Muddenahalli or the true Master Sathya Sai Baba?
- Would you entrust your eternity to an enlightened Master or to a Possessed?
- Did the medium of Muddenahalli experience the transcendental reality? Did he achieve the supreme Knowledge?
- If so, he would not have acted as a clown. If he has not had the supreme experience, he has not Knowledge.
- Those who act in this way cannot be said to be trustworthy people.
- The one who boasts credit is not honest.
- The people who try to move us away from the persons we love (parents, brothers, wife and children) are scoundrels.
- It is amazing that intelligent and respected professional individuals fall into the charm of these crooks.
- Father Bruno Fasani concluded that these rascals are plagiarizing weak people, and whoever appreciates such rascals must have forfeited their own intelligence.
- Whoever falls into this trap should at least have the common sense to ask for help from the health authorities.
THE DESCENT IN THE FIELD
Sathya Sai Baba’s true devotees take to the field not for defending the reality of their Master or the metaphysical truth. Neither one needs confirmation. The reasons are others:
- They take to the field for the sake of those researchers deceived by unscrupulous people and dazzled by an easy spiritual conquest.
- They do it because they have the reasonable certainty that beautiful minds are moving away from the liberation which they aspire to.
- They do it because they fear that all these researchers, without any fault of their own, are taken to the spiritual slaughter by unscrupulous individuals with no Knowledge.
- They do it so they can give spiritual seekers the opportunity to understand the folly of the Possessed and the greed of his accomplices.
- They do it because in Muddenahalli, a clown or a sick person plays with the faith of millions of Sai devotees scattered around the world.
- Because they are embittered to see that some researchers pass from the University of the Spirit to the kindergarten of the Spirit.
- Finally they enter the arena for the respect they have for all those who seek the metaphysical Truth.
- He did not create troubles for children and married couples;
- He did not create economic problems for families;
- He did not stimulate illusion as with the followers of Muddenahalli;
- His purpose was to transform everyone into a seeker of truth.
