FORMER NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF ITALIAN SATHYA SAI ORGANISATION
mr MARCO FULGENZIO SPEAKS OUT
Translated to English by Maria Cristina Zorzi
Before starting this reflection of mine, I would like to assert that each of us is free to follow what to think is most appropriate and to associate or not with any organization.
I refer to some events that took place in some Italian cities and around the world, not organized by the International Sathya Sai Organization (SSIO), which are bringing enormous confusion and separation within the SSIO itself, as well as among Sai devotees belonging to or less to the SSIO.
Therefore, I would like to share some thoughts with you.
Baba taught us for years that the Sathya Sai Organization is based on a Principle: "Unity is Divinity and Divinity is Love".
The Sai Organization maintains Unity above all with its SAI Name, which is a privilege and an honor, but also an enormous responsibility. But not all Sai devotees believe this. And, think that Swami Himself wanted the Organization by giving it His Name.
Sai Organization maintains Unity with consistent and exemplary behavior both in the Centers and in society. But not all Sai devotees work in this direction. Swami says: "The Unity of the Organization is demonstrated through personal example and the practice that shows that no joy is equal to that of sharing, giving and giving up." [Sathya Sai Speaks, vol. 8].
Sai Organization certainly maintains Unity through Love. But not all Sai devotees are ready to give Love unconditionally or receive it, in Sai Centers / Groups. And so it is looked for outside, in other contexts. And, think that Swami's Love is only in our hearts!
Very well, we continue to search, sooner or later we will find it. Love, on the other hand, is Freedom. But is freedom always Love? Love surely never imposes. Swami never imposed anything: he indicated, he advised, he suggested, he exhorted us to reflect. And even the Organization does not impose: Sai Centers / Groups are free to manage themselves through Guidelines, rules approved by Sai, and through His Teachings on Unidirectionality.
The Guidelines are not senseless rules, designed to hurt the feelings and freedom of others or to create separations of any kind. Swami would not have approved them! Instead, he approved a Method valid for all of us, to be able to grow in Unity and Love through an Organization that has His Name and is His, not ours. And this means, for those who recognize it, the opportunity to work together for our transformation and the well-being of all, supporting each other in the ups and downs of the journey, lovingly confronting and enlightening us.
In the SSIO only someone is not given this opportunity, nor is freedom: this someone is our ego. It is Ego which creates separations and does not allow us to work long together!
Surely misunderstandings can arise in this journey together, which can arise from personal interpretations, incorrect information, an incorrect exchange of opinions, or problems can have other causes that must be analyzed in the depth of one's heart and identified by answering with sincerity to a simple question: "What do I really want and, above all, how do I want to achieve it?"
Swami recommended Unidirectionality if we want to achieve a goal. And Unidirectionality should not be confused with being sectarian or too rigid only because it demands attention and discrimination when necessary.
It is Swami who tells us that Love is Devotion but it is also Discipline, Duty, Discernment, Determination, and Detachment.
It is not Unidirectionality towards the same Teachings of Sai that brings confusion, frictions, separations and, even, to the choice to leave Sai Centers / Centers and their tasks to follow other ways, other people who call themselves "Baba's spiritual heirs" or "holders of His revelations" as well as "chosen mediums" who propose more or less paranormal, esoteric, mediumistic phenomena.
Baba had accustomed us to his " Lila" for many years, but he had also warned us about certain phenomena: "I never talk through others, nor do I use other's physical bodies to express myself. I am not a ghost, nor a spirit to do so and I do not need a medium. I come directly, I speak directly, I present myself as I am or, if I wish, in another form created by Me. I do not use weak and wavering human vehicles: I grant my gifts directly without using intermediaries. Recently some people have claimed to be possessed by Me. Send them away, wherever you meet them. Pay no attention to such idiocies and similar falsehoods if you do not want to lose your dignity as devotees >> [Sathyam, Shivam, Sundaram part 2 - March 29, 1965].
And now that he is no longer in his physical body, are his recommendations no longer the same importance?
Perhaps the opposite! Perhaps he had given them to us precisely because all these phenomena would have occurred. Let's call them tests, tests, exams, opportunities, etc. ... but surely they confront us with a choice. All these phenomena, unconsciously or not, attract devotees and in some cases drive them away.
What to do?
This is not the first time this fact has happened. It also happened when Swami was still in His physical body and reproached those devotees who, while in Prasanthi in the presence of the Sadguru, Bhagavan himself, went to other gurus to witness more or less extraordinary phenomena or to solve their problems.
And then, it is right asking if the separation is really due to the rules of the International Sathya Sai Organization, too rigid for anyone, or has very different causes.
This is a very difficult time for humanity, increasingly suffering, disintegrated, poised ... and this is also affected by the Sai Organization, which has the arduous task of spreading in society, with practice and with 'example, the Teachings of Sai and to protect their Name.
Swami told us more things about it and I quote some of them:
- "Promise one thing: that you will not discredit the Sai Organization!" [Speeches 88/89, Vol. 1]
- "We must have faith in the Sathya Sai Organization's Name and in the dissemination of this Name in the manner most suited to His Message and His Majesty." [Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol.6]
- "The State asks you a solemn oath when you enter its service. Even in the Sai Organization each member and each leader must swear an oath, from the bottom of his heart, before devoting himself to the activities: Baba, bless me with intelligence, the ability, and enthusiasm to carry out the task assigned to me for my own spiritual evolution. Guide me along the right path, pour out Your Grace on me so that I can earn the right reputation. Preserve me from the temptation to commit missteps. "[Sathya Sai Speaks. Vol.6]
We know that Sai Baba can do everything and is everywhere. Why look for Him then somewhere? Why should he want intermediaries? He is in our heart, in everyone's heart, and that's where we can meet him whenever we need him. It is from there that he will always continue to inspire us and guide us in our lives as Sai devotees.
"We have our goal and Swami indicated the way we must follow with quiet sincerity and devotion." [Sathya Sai - Conversations].

[Sathya Sai Speaks, vol. 8].
- L’Organizzazione Sai sicuramente mantiene l’Unità attraverso l’Amore.
Tutti questi fenomeni, inconsapevolmente o meno, attirano i devoti e in certi casi li allontanano.
[Sathya Sai – Colloqui].
